Privacy Policy
A short, plain-language overview of how we handle visitor information.
This Privacy Policy explains how ParentsPatch (“ParentsPatch,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information about people who visit parentspatch.com (the “Site”). It is written in plain language because we believe privacy notices should be readable, not legal theater.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide directly
When you sign up for our newsletter, write to us through the contact page, or otherwise interact with the Site, we collect the information you choose to share. This includes:
- Your email address (for newsletter subscription)
- Your name, email, subject, and message (for contact form submissions)
- Any comments or feedback you voluntarily provide
Information collected automatically
When you visit ParentsPatch, our hosting and analytics tools automatically collect certain non-identifying information, such as:
- Pages you visited, time spent on each, and referring website
- Approximate location at the country or region level
- Device type, browser type, and operating system
- Anonymized IP address
- Date and time of your visit
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Send the weekly newsletter you subscribed to
- Reply to your contact form submissions and reader letters
- Understand which articles are useful so we can publish more like them
- Improve the Site’s design, performance, and accessibility
- Detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security incidents
- Display advertising (see Advertising personalization controls below)
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies (web beacons, local storage) to:
- Remember basic preferences such as accepted cookie banners
- Provide essential site functionality
- Power anonymous analytics measurements
- Serve and measure third-party advertising (see next section)
You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings at any time without affecting your ability to read articles on this Site. Disabling cookies may, however, prevent personalization features from working as designed.
4. Advertising personalization controls
ParentsPatch may display advertising provided by third-party advertising partners, including Google AdSense and other advertising networks. These partners use cookies, web beacons, mobile identifiers, and similar tracking technologies to:
- Show advertisements based on your previous visits to this Site and other websites across the internet
- Measure how often ads are seen, clicked, and converted
- Prevent the same advertisement from being shown to you too many times
- Detect and prevent fraud
You have full control over how ads are personalized to you. You can review, manage, or opt out of personalized advertising at any time using Google’s official advertising preference tools:
- Google Ads Settings
Opt out of personalized advertising across Google services or customize the types of ads you see based on your interests. - Google My Ad Center
Review and manage the ads, advertisers, and topics shown to you across Google services, including search results and YouTube.
You can also opt out of personalized advertising from other third-party advertisers through these industry-wide programs:
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) opt-out
- Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) opt-out
- European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA), Your Online Choices
Opting out of personalized advertising does not stop you from seeing ads. It means the ads you see will be less tailored to your interests.
5. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of trusted third-party services to operate and improve the Site. Each has its own privacy policy and data handling practices:
- Google AdSense, advertising. See Google’s advertising policies.
- Google Analytics, anonymized usage measurement. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Email newsletter provider, newsletter delivery
- Hosting provider, website hosting and security
6. Affiliate links
Some articles include affiliate links to products our writers recommend. If you buy something through one of those links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We disclose this clearly in our Affiliate Disclosure. Affiliate networks may use cookies to track referrals; you can decline these cookies in your browser settings.
7. Children’s privacy
ParentsPatch is written for parents, caregivers, and adults. The Site is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union and United Kingdom, depending on member state). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
